Book Review

"When I first curled up by the crackling fire to journey through The Watchmaker, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. Knowing that author Brandon Asay had an end goal to promote aspiring creators, I assumed the book had been written for a very specific audience. It didn't take me long to realize that The Watchmaker is a universal tale which had never been expressed in this remarkable way, though it has been lived and discovered countless times throughout the ages.

I was immediately drawn in by an incredible variety of characters: the preoccupied businessman, Chet Mathawk and his supportive but mysterious wife, Evelyn; the compassionate boy from South Boston, Shawn, who whilst caring for his aging mother had left many dreams unfulfilled; and Annie—oh Annie!—the exuberant life-loving girl from the Pacific Northwest who is willing to go to any extreme to accomplish what she believes is her mission in life. The way these characters are so exquisitely woven together on the stage of Asay's epic novel is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Adventure, discovery, tragedy, hope, devastation, and epiphany all lie within the folds of these carefully crafted pages. But more importantly, readers who embark on this odyssey will realize along the way that The Watchmaker is actually a journey of self-discovery—causing one to ponder the very meaning of life itself, and to realize, that in the end, we all possess the gift of being able to reach for the "deepest longings of the heart" and the "most idyllic settings of the soul."

About the Author

Brandon Asay grew up near Seattle, Washington, where his childhood home was a place of exploration for him and his three siblings. Thanks to adventurous parents, Brandon could often be found hiking and camping in the Cascade or Olympic mountain ranges, fishing in the Puget Sound, or digging for clams on Whidbey Island. Somewhere along the way, Brandon found a passion for storytelling. As a teenager, Brandon published his first book, Power. He has since unpublished the fantasy novel, but will be republishing it soon.

After graduating high school, Brandon served a two-year volunteer mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Boston, Massachusetts. In Cambridge, he met a lovely young woman named Amber who later became his beloved wife. Brandon attended Brigham Young University for his undergraduate studies, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Business Strategy.

Brandon and Amber now live in the Chicago suburbs with their son Chet (2.5) and daughter Frankie (1). Brandon works for an industrial supply company and is pursuing an MBA at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. He has spent the last 6 years creating The Watchmaker and hopes it inspires individuals of every background around the world. He founded Watchmaker Foundation and aspires to spend his life alleviating the roadblocks facing creators of every age, race, ability, culture, and belief system. He believes humankind has only barely scratched the surface of creation; the greatest art, literature, film, venture, music, technology, architecture, discovery, philosophy,  and much more, is yet to come. He hopes Watchmaker Foundation will enable this extraordinary evolution.
